LINDSAY SPRING CHAMPIONSHIP

LINDSAY, ONTARIO

It was standing room only at the new Lindsay fairgrounds on Saturday May 24th, as thousands of derby fans packed the grandstand to see the best Central Ontario had to offer.  Being the first spring event of 2008 there were some great drivers on hand, even if just to watch (#127 & #28-14).

 

To start things off it was Jesse Bolton taking the first checkered flag of the night a win in the opening figure 8 race, while Blaine McKelvey took the 2nd race in a controversial decision.

 

Up next were the Full Size heats, which saw Mitch Clarkson and Karl Cousineau taking the top spot, with David Johnson, Dave Tink, Alain Brennan, Bob Cousineau and Darren Wonnenburg collecting Runner Up points.

 

The feature event was not for the faint of heart.  Despite a loose track the drivers were able to get enough traction that David Johnson almost rolled veteran driver Bob Cousineau.  In the end it was Dave Tink fighting it out with Karl Cousineau for the win.  Despite his best effort Tink lost an axle after a devastating shot from Cousineau, who collected the victory, the purse, and a the 2nd place position in the 2008 points standings.

 

The 4 Cylinder heats were a fight to the finish, with Matt Barrett and Scott Sidall taking wins, but neither were able to hold off Matt Caswell in the feature.  Even with a broken tie rod Matt was able to put Sidall into the blocks for the win.  In addition to the victory, Caswell also took the 1st place position in the 2008 4 Cylinder point standings.

 

Thanks to everyone who came out for this great event.  Proceeds raised from the gate went to help the Boys and Girls Club of Kawartha Lakes.
